Robinson Bradshaw Team Highlighted in "Litigator of the Week" for Appellate Victory in New York

Robinson Bradshaw attorneys Greg Skidmore, Fitz Barringer and Preetha Suresh were named "Litigator of the Week" runners-up by The American Lawyer Litigation Daily for a recent victory in New York on behalf of their client, Verizon Communications, in a False Claims Act case that has been pending for more than a decade.

The team secured a unanimous decision from the Appellate Division, First Department affirming an order granting summary judgment in a False Claims Act case seeking billions of dollars in damages and penalties. The qui tam action, filed in 2014, alleged that Verizon and other telecommunications companies violated the New York False Claims Act by under-billing, under-collecting and under-remitting taxes related to 911 emergency management services. After years of litigation, Robinson Bradshaw led the summary judgment briefing on behalf of all defendants, and the trial court granted summary judgment to defendants in 2025. Robinson Bradshaw again led the briefing on appeal, and Skidmore argued the appeal on behalf of the defense group. The First Department affirmed the grant of summary judgment on multiple grounds earlier this month.
