Overview

John Carmichael’s practice focuses on land use and zoning, commercial real estate and land use litigation.   • Represented a regional hospital system on the rezoning of a 69-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate a new hospital bed tower and a new rehabilitation hospital on the site, as well as the future expansion of the existing hospital facilities on the site.

  • Represented a regional hospital system in connection with the negotiation and drafting of a development agreement with the town of Stallings, North Carolina, and the ultimate approval of the development agreement by the town of Stallings, North Carolina. The purpose of the development agreement was to secure the right to develop a hospital on the subject site as well as multifamily and commercial uses.

  • Represented a regional hospital system on the rezoning of a 14.3-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate a multiuse development on the site that will contain a medical school, research uses, office and medical office uses, multifamily residential uses, retail and restaurant uses, and a hotel.

  • Represented a regional developer on the rezoning of a 38-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate an office, warehouse, distribution and light industrial business park on the site that will contain a maximum of 550,000 square feet of gross floor area.

  • Represented a regional developer on the rezoning of a 153-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate an office, warehouse, distribution and light industrial business park on the site that will contain a maximum of 1.5 million square feet of gross floor area.

  • Represented a national developer on the rezoning of a 72-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate a multifamily residential community on the site that will contain a maximum of 712 multifamily dwelling units.

  • Represented a national developer on the rezoning of a 57-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate a multiuse project on the site that will be comprised of office, retail and multifamily residential uses. Under this rezoning, a maximum of 660,000 square feet of non-residential uses and a maximum of 575 multifamily dwelling units are permitted on the site.

  • Represented a regional developer on the rezoning of a 21-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate a maximum 250,000-square-foot building on the site that will be devoted to warehouse, distribution, industrial and office uses.

  • Represented a regional developer on the rezoning of a 20-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate a multifamily residential community on the site that will contain a maximum of 312 multifamily dwelling units.

  • Represented a national developer on the rezoning of a 9-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate an affordable multifamily residential community on the site that will contain a maximum of 200 multifamily dwelling units.

  • Represented a regional developer on the rezoning of a 60-acre site in Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate the development of a multiuse project on the site that may contain 1.8 million square feet of office space, 40,000 square feet of retail space and multifamily dwelling units.

  • Represented a regional senior living community operator on the rezoning of a 42-acre site in Matthews, North Carolina, to accommodate a continuing care retirement community on the site.

  • Represented a regional developer in connection with the negotiation and execution of a development agreement with Catawba County, North Carolina, regarding a 400,000-square-foot multiuse project in the county that may contain office and retail uses.
