Robinson Bradshaw attorney Charles H. Bowyer was the first member of his family to attend law school. Without a familial example to follow, adjusting to life at Duke University School of Law was at times a challenging transition.

Bowyer's experience, along with other similarly situated students, inspired Assistant Director and Senior Career Counselor Jennifer Caplan to create First Generation Professionals. 1GP is an enhancement program that pairs students in Bowyer's position with upper-year student and alumni mentors and organizes events targeted to their interests.

Bowyer graduated from Duke Law in 2017 and recently returned to campus to share his insights at a 1GP event. More information about Bowyer's experience and the 1GP program is available in a recent Duke Law article here.
