As the firm celebrates its 60th anniversary this month, Robinson Bradshaw is pleased to announce that Allen K. Robertson has been re-elected to serve as managing partner. He has served as managing partner since September 2015, and his second five-year term will end September 2025.

“Allen has done a fantastic job in his first term of leading the firm in its next phase of growth while being firmly committed to maintaining our unique culture,” founder Russell Robinson said. “We could not have had a better managing partner in this period, and we are indebted to him for his service and devotion to the firm.”

“We had high hopes for Allen’s leadership as he took office,” said Angie Vincent-Hamacher, a shareholder who served on the nominating committee that recommended Robertson for the position in 2015 and who has served on the firm’s board of directors since 2016. “Allen has exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to having him at the helm for the next five years.”

Robertson’s immediate priority during the coming year is to continue to successfully guide the firm through the uncertainty resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the economy. Longer term, his priorities include continuing the trend of substantial increases in the firm’s revenues, size and scope established during his first term, maintaining a firm culture that fosters excellent client service by eliminating intrafirm competition to the greatest extent possible, and staying focused on the firm’s efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion internally, in the legal profession and in the communities the firm serves.

“I appreciate the confidence placed in me by my fellow shareholders, and I am excited about serving as managing partner for the next five years,” Robertson said. “I certainly wouldn’t have predicted I’d be serving as managing partner during a pandemic, and I feel fortunate for our firm’s stability during this challenging time. We have our clients to thank for that, as they have continued to trust us to guide them through this ever-changing landscape. I am confident that the expertise and experience of our lawyers, combined with a culture that keeps us focused solely on delivering excellent service to our clients, means that we are well-positioned for continued success.”

Robertson was a Morehead Scholar and received his Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1988. Upon graduation from law school, Robertson served for one year as a law clerk to the Honorable James B. McMillan, U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. He joined Robinson Bradshaw as an associate in 1989, and became a shareholder in 1996.

Robertson was a bankruptcy lawyer and litigator in his early years before focusing on lending transactions and ultimately on public finance. He has been recognized in numerous publications, including Chambers USA and Best Lawyers, as a public finance lawyer of regional and national distinction, and is a Fellow in the American College of Bond Counsel. In 2013-14 Robertson served as president of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, becoming only the second North Carolina lawyer to do so since the association was founded in 1979. He has continued to maintain an active practice while leading the firm.
