Profile
Julie Griggs advises clients regarding family-owned business interests, including ownership succession issues, as well as the use of family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, trusts and other techniques to transfer wealth at reduced transfer tax costs.
She also provides estate planning and related tax counsel to specialized clients such as business executives and professionals in the fields of medicine and law.
Julie serves as a consultant to other law firms on substantive estate planning issues, complex estate administration and probate issues, and related tax matters. Her experience includes serving as special counsel in connection with successful resolutions of audits of gift and estate tax returns involving complex transfers and unique assets and in other types of trust and estate litigation, and in the formation and operation of charities, including private foundations.

Creates comprehensive estate plans, including wills, revocable trusts, financial powers of attorney and health care powers of attorney.
Creates various irrevocable trusts, such as life insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts and qualified domestic trusts.
Represents irrevocable trust beneficiaries in obtaining judicial and nonjudicial consent modifications.
Assists trustees in modifying irrevocable trusts through statutory decanting powers.
Prepares U.S. Estate Tax Returns and Gift Tax Returns, including Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Returns, and U.S. Income Tax Returns for Estates and Trusts.
Analyzes beneficiary designations and tax implications related to retirement benefits and life insurance policies.
Advises clients on the formation and governance of private foundations.
