Dianne Chipps Bailey was a speaker at a Mecklenburg County Bar Continuing Legal Education event, "Crash Course in Board Essentials: Lawyers Edition."

Whether you are a new board member or a seasoned volunteer looking for a refresher on best practices, this session was for you. Volunteer leaders play a critical role in the success of nonprofit organizations. Strong, knowledgeable board members help nonprofits gain credibility, provide access to community resources, and serve as effective advocates. Nonprofits that lack strong board leadership often languish or, worse, find themselves the subject of media scrutiny or governmental inquiry. Attorneys have a particular role to play in risk management and legal compliance, but care must be taken to ensure compliance with ethical and professional responsibility rules. During this workshop, Bailey offered tools and techniques to minimize your personal exposure to liability as a volunteer leader and leverage your skills and passion to realize your favorite nonprofit’s mission.

The event was held at the Mecklenburg Bar Center, and attendees received 1.5 CLE credit hours.
