Dianne Chipps Bailey presented a seminar on Ethical Issues in the Representation of Nonprofit Organizations on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 hosted by the Mecklenburg County Bar.

This CLE session included ethical issues that arise (and are sometimes overlooked) in the representation of nonprofit organizations, including pro bono representation of nonprofits. It covered the importance of engagement letters detailing the attorney-client relationship and the scope of representation. Consideration will be given to the approval of any professional fees when the attorney also serves as a member of the nonprofit's board of directors.  Other issues related to attorney service on a nonprofit board including malpractice coverage, the attorney-client privilege, and statutory immunity for unpaid directors also will be discussed.
