Kate Maynard Quoted in NC Lawyers Weekly on New ABA Ethics Opinion

Robinson Bradshaw attorney Kate Gordon Maynard was quoted in a North Carolina Lawyers Weekly article discussing the American Bar Association's recent Formal Opinion 519, which addresses attorney withdrawal motions and client confidentiality obligations.

“The opinion lays out a roadmap for lawyers and emphasizes that a lawyer must maintain the confidence of all information related to the representation, not just information protected by the attorney-client privilege,” Maynard said. “To disclose confidential information in the process of seeking approval to withdraw, a lawyer must have client consent, a court order to make the disclosure, or another exception to the duty of confidentiality.”
