Overview

Demi Lorant Bostian counsels corporations and individuals in complex civil and regulatory disputes. Class actions and multidistrict litigation are a core part of her practice. She has litigated matters ranging from commercial fraud, breach of contract, and unfair trade practices to mass tort disputes. Demi's experience includes representation across a variety of industries, including health care, banking and finance, and the oil and gas sectors. She advises clients through all stages of litigation, from factual development to appeals, in both state and federal court.

Demi has also advocated for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, underserved students and schools, and the LGBTQ+ community as part of her pro bono practice.

Before law school, Demi was a public school teacher in North Carolina. She draws on her experience in the classroom to break down convoluted legal issues so that they are straightforward and accessible.

Experience

  • Represents a publicly traded, multinational company in litigation related to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in both a nationwide MDL and other litigation.
  • Represents a national bank in multiple putative class actions (MDL centralization in Boston) regarding what is alleged to be one of the largest Ponzi/pyramid schemes in U.S. history.
  • Defended a national industrial gas company in a contract case in Tennessee state court seeking tens of millions of dollars from a former customer. After discovery uncovered fraudulent behavior on the part of the customer, the case settled favorably on the eve of trial.
  • Defended a national civil rights organization in a dispute involving allegations of employee misconduct and defamation.
  • Defended a client in a proposed ERISA class action concerning severance benefits. The firm secured dismissal of the complaint.
  • Represents debtor as special counsel for asbestos claims estimation matters to determine aggregate responsibility for thousands of current and future mesothelioma claims. In re Bestwall LLC, Case No. 17-31795 (Bankr. W.D.N.C.).
